Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias has stressed the need for speeding up the implementation of the Educational Reform which the new government has pledged to expand and deepen.
The President was speaking at Monday's meeting of the Council of Education held under his chairmanship and in the presence of the Minister of Education and Culture Andreas Demetriou during which the members of the Council discussed the goals of the upcoming school year. Among these goals are the creation of a peaceful coexistence and a mutual respect and cooperation culture between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots aiming at reunifying Cyprus and its people.
Christofias noted that the meeting marked the resumption of the structured and systematic dialogue being conducted in the Councils on Educational Reform. He stressed the need for speeding up the pace of implementation of the Reform that the new government has pledged to expand and deepen, while he expressed the commitment that any changes will take place always within a "continuous, honest and constructive dialogue with all the involved parties."
According a press release issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Council of Education reviewed the up-to-date progress of implementation of the Educational Reform and defined the dialogue issues.
The Council was also briefed by the Minister of the Education and Culture on the issues promoted by the Ministry of Education for immediate implementation. Other goals are related to innovation and creativity on the occasion of the 2009 proclamation as a European Year of innovation and creativity.
