New Delhi (PTI): Hailing the Jawaharlal Nehru University educational model as world class, UGC Chairperson Sukhdeo Thorat has said other Indian universities should learn from it.
Thorat, a Padma awardee and JNU alumni, was felicitated by his alma mater along with two other Padma awardees from the university, VC of Jammu university Prof Amitabh Mattoo and Hyderabad university VC Prof Syed E Husnain.
Praising the university's atmosphere, he said, "Whether its politics, education or good administrative system, you always look at JNU."
"All that I have learnt at JNU comes as great experience while policy formation in UGC," he added while addressing the first ever JNU alumni meet on Saturday night.
Prof Mattoo and Husnain could not attend the event but sent their messages thanking the university for honouring them.
Organised for the first time, JNU alumni meet saw around 500-600 former students congregating at their alma mater.
"The four day event was a success and saw some well known faces like Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury, D P Tripathi, Prof S Thorat, Prof G K Chaddha, T K Arun and Vivek Bharati," said organiser of the event, Prof Anand Kumar.
