KOTA BAHARU (Bernama) -- "Portal Link Akademik" initiated by the Kelantan Education Department to monitor the academic achievement of students electronically, has been proven effective in enhancing the performance of schools in the state.
"The impact is quite impressive," said Education Director-General Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom who explained that this was based on the percentage of students obtaining excellent results in major examinations.
"Since the portal was introduced in 2006, the results of major examinations such as UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM in Kelantan often exceeded the national average," he told reporters at the launch of the portal here today.
The portal allows teachers and parents to monior the performance on students and identify steps to be taken to achieve excellence.
"To achieve extraordinary achievement in line with the rapidly growing technology, we have to be creative and think outside the box to come up with other methods out of the ordinary," Alimuddin said.
"Portal Link Akademik" was developed in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia and Infinity Prospect and has been adopted since 2006 statewide.
Kelantan Education Director Ismail Md Noor said the idea to come up with the electronic system to monitor the performance of students came following the shortage of officers and the geographical locations of schools.
"It is not easy to monitor over 500 secondary and primary schools in the state. Then came the idea to create the monitoring system through the internet which is faster and easier," he said.
