ISLAMABAD—Private Educational Institutions have sought representation in Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA), which is looking after their affairs in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
The regulatory authority called as Islamabad Capital Territory Private Educational Institutions (Regulation and Promotion) Regulatory Authority was established in previous government through an ordinance and responsible for registration, regulation and promotion of the privately-managed educational institutions within the ICT.
Malik Abrar, President of Private Schools' Owners Association talkin to newsmen on Wednesday said the authority was taking arbitrary decisions regarding private schools' affairs, thus he added it should have their representation to amicably settle issues. "To begin with, we were not taken on board while establishing the authority, even though we welcomed it but later it proved to be Damocles sword on the private schools, given its high-handedness towards them", he remarked.
Replying to a question, he said being self-fiance status of the body had created hurdles for the private schools, forcing many of them to charge more fee from students.
"All expenditures of the authority including its officials' salaries are met from our money which it collects under different heads like security fee, registration or renewal fee etc", he remarked. Replying to another question, he said that once it sent a letter to the private educational institutions to charge low fee from students as it would provide free books to their students but it failed to keep its word and these institutions had to bear the brunt by providing those books.
