PESHAWAR (APP): The speakers during the ongoing Higher Education Commission's Athletics Course here Friday underscored the need for active involvement of educational institutions to help bolster sports activities in the country. Professor Dr. Muhammad Asghar Jamil, Director Sports of the Punjab University and Deputy Director Sports PSB Dr. Wahid Mughal in their papers said that Pakistan can only achieve lurals at international level in the field of sports if educational institutions were involved and encouraged. Professor Muhammad Asghar Jamil while highlighting the importance of the course said that it is to provide participants with the theoretical and practical training required to make them capable of officiating at national level competitions and at international contests held within the country. He said HEC should have forced of Technical Officials (TOs) who could provide due facilities to the educational institutions across the country. Such course, he said, is very vital for the directors of physical education because it is a source of attaining knowledge. Athletic training is practiced by athletic trainers and those having knowledge about physical education. It can not be taught without attaining knowledge, especially to the children in their schooling age, he said. He said in Pakistan the kids in the school age did not have proper knowledge about the basic of the game because their physical instructor has not such education to teach him the basic. Lack of basic knowledge these kids did not carry the game they dreamed for and so left the game due to short of perfection. The causes of the injuries to the players at national level occurred due to lack of fitness, changing natural action of the players, balanced diet, easy availability of quality health professionals and technical know how about the use of modern equipments. Dr. Wahid Mughal in his lecture said that Athletic training has roots dating back to ancient Greece, but the athletic training profession as it is known today is radically different by comparison. Gone are the days when "trainers" were known mainly for carrying water jugs and acting as team managers, he remarked. He said, today, Certified Athletic Trainer's (ATC's) are highly educated and unique health care providers who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses that occur to athletes and the physically active. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities, said Dr. Wahid Mughal.
